Introduction

Professional commitment refers to the attitude and point of view that people have toward their profession. Being professional requires commitment. I believe that teachers need to be committed not only with students, but with MST, staff members, colleagues and teaching itself. This means following rules, being on time, working collaboratively with others and showing respect. This page illustrates how I achieved the commitment to professional competency.

1.Maintain punctuality

Maintain punctuality means being prepared to manage your time and organizing your space. Also, means keeping things in the same place so you do not wasting your time looking for them when you are  in a hurry to catch up with something.

Reflection

Academic success requires being on time. Teachers need to manage their time, so they can effectively finish their tasks and duties on time. In my early teaching practices, I was not managing my time well. I used to face many challenges to apply all of the activities and assessments that I planned for in my lessons. This was affecting students learning process and my teaching success as well. I was unable to achieve my learning objectives most of the time. Thus, I decided to manage my time through creating a time table of all of my tasks and duties that I will carry on in each semester. A timetable is a schedule type used for planning to show at what times certain activities should be occurred (Khan, 2019).

I believe that timetable is extremely important because it gave me the opportunity to create good lesson plans and provided an extra time for me to modify them for the better. Additionally, I was using the timer during my lessons. It helped me to organize my time during each lesson by finishing each activity in a specific time, hence achieving my learning objectives. Moreover, I noticed that students were able to accomplish their tasks better, when the timer was used. I believe this was because students felt that they were challenged by the time, so they became more focused to finish their tasks on time effectively. Setting a specific time on tasks helps students prioritize them with full attention and complete them efficiently (Blog, 2015).

2.Participate in school events

Being involved in school events is essential to show professionalism. As trainee teachers, we had to participate in schools events each semester to support our MSTs and other staff members. We carried on various duties during these events such as organizing things, monitoring students and help parents.

Reflection

During my teaching practices, schools had prepared and celebrated many events. Some of these events were relevant to the school itself like winning a particular competition or celebrating students' achievements. On the other hand, some events were compulsory for all schools by the Ministry of Education such as the Flag Day, National Day, Happiness Day, etc. However, I used to ignore most of the events because I did not know that being a part of these events, represents professionalism and makes others feels that you are responsible person who cares about everything related to teaching. Therefore, I participated in many events.

I participated in the Flag Day in several teaching practices. For example, in semester eight, where I practiced my teaching online. I selected three students and told them to prepare some words to say about this important day at the beginning of the lesson. Then, I played a game with them in which I asked questions relevant to the Flag Day and the students, who answered correctly received one extra grade. Additionally, I participated in Spelling Bee Competition. I helped my MST with providing a list of students' names   who will participate in the competition. Moreover, I created some online learning games to allow students practice the vocabulary and prepared them for the competition. Participating in these events  made my MST happy and this made me feel proud about myself. Also, I was able to encourage students to learn through applying online learning games. Students were engaged and I believe this was because of my online learning games. They were suitable to their level and supported their learning styles.

3.Build good relationship with students, MST and colleagues

odsjgkjelk.gif

The success of school environment is based on the quality of its relationships. I firmly believe that learning comes secondary to the core primary goal of developing positive relationships. Without good  relationships with students and colleagues, very little learning will  take place.

Reflection

As a trainee teacher, I tried to build a strong relationship with my MST  students, colleagues and other schools staff starting from first teaching practice. I used to introduce myself to the schools principals in appropriate way and informing them that I am here to help and learn, not to be a burden by being careless person. Additionally, I used to help my MSTs with his duties such as planning and preparing for lessons, correcting students tests and homework, monitoring students in the morning assembly and while working on their tasks. Moreover, I attended other teachers classes and provided my assistance when it was needed.

Furthermore, I inspired students to bring out their best through applying positive reinforcement strategies such as verbal praises and extra grades even if they had wrong answers. I encouraged them to participate during the lessons by implementing online learning games because I know students at early ages love learning through playing.   All these things benefited me because my MSTs were available when I needed their helps. They supported me in many things. Also, other staff members welcomed me when I needed them to work on some tasks. Besides that, building good relationships with students allowed me to manage them easily during the lessons. I was able to engage them and motivate them to learn effectively.

I was Using the free time to build a good relationship with students through allowing them to do what they love (students wanted to make a play and I helped them with that).
